WORDPRESS THEMES
"ThemeForest.net" is our recommendation for
finding a popular WordPress theme for your website. Not only do these themes have fabulous graphics and
capabilities, but they are very inexpensive. You can have a WordPress Theme installed and customized
for a fraction of the cost you would pay a web developer to build a custom website from scratch. And chances
are that the custom developed website would still not match the style and functionality of a WordPress
Theme. Plus, most of the WordPress Themes include "Content Management Systems" (CMS). This means that
YOU can easily make changes to the website whenever you want at NO COST (other than your time). All of
the graphics, all of the text, all of the photos, everything is under your control.
WHAT IS A THEME? - A WordPress theme is a pre-created webpage design which
is where a huge amount of work normally goes in building a new website. Factors such as where
do text and graphics go, where do buttons go, what size are the photos, and how wide are
the pages, are already pre-defined and created when using a WordPress theme. It is like buying a
home that is already built. In a pre-built home, the layout of the kitchen, the bedrooms,
the living room, and the baths, are already there. You just paint it the way you like, then

layout is already in place. Just choose a theme with the "look and feel" you want, and then

WHY USE A THEME? - The main reasons for using a WordPress theme
are SPEED, ECONOMY, and QUALITY. If you had an architect
build a new home for you, you might spend weeks, months - even years - creating the design and blueprints.
All of that time, you would NOT be living in that home. For a small business, the time to get the
"shingle" over the door is critical to survival. A WordPress theme enables a website to be built

WHAT IS SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO)? - Owning a website is like owning
a horse. It can be a "pet" that you show off to your neighbors, clients, and friends, or it can be
an "asset" which makes you money. If you intend to have it be an "asset" for your business, then
you need to get a "horse trainer", get into some races, and win some money!
The major "race tracks" for websites are the major search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
The main idea of your website is to increase sales, but to increase sales, people need to visit your
website. Here is where the "race tracks" come in. The higher you rank on Google, Bing, or Yahoo for
any search, the more likely that the person searching will visit your website. As it turns out, most
people only visit the top three sites. In other words, the best way to get visitors (and their purchases)
is to "win, place, or show" at the website race tracks.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) prepares your website with the tools, keywords, and other
connections which will move your website higher in the search engine rankings. Though some folks
try doing it themselves, this highly technical work requires lots of knowledge, skill, and expertise.
Their are millions upon millions of websites, and very few reach stardom because "novices" are
tinkering with their website "horses" to no avail. If you truly want to rank highly on a search engine, you
will need the assistance of an SEO expert. SEO experts are the "horse trainers" who get your website
ready to "win" some races at the search engine race tracks.
HOW DO I FIND AN SEO EXPERT? - Lots of folks sell themselves as SEO experts (and
have you pay handsomely for it), but few are able to deliver on their boast. If the expert is good,
you will see your website move upwards and onto the first page of a search, or best of all, "placing in
the money" (1st, 2nd, or 3rd). The good ones will provide reports of progress (movement higher in
the rankings). If your website is not moving upwards, it's time to find another SEO expert. Those
experts I advertise on my site are highly recommended and have a proven "track" record.
WHAT DOES SEO COST? - It depends upon which races you want to win or if you just
want to get onto the first page of a search. Plus, to continue "winning" races, you must constantly
have your website "horse" in training. In other words, your expenditure for SEO will be an ongoing cost.
Just to get started, you can expect an initial cost of about $150 per month. If you want to win races,
the monthly cost starts going upward. If you have your sights set on winning the "triple crown" of
search engines (Google, Bing, and Yahoo), then your training might go over $1000 monthly (which is well
worth it if it brings in revenue of millions of dollars).
If you have budgeted $500 to $1000 dollars for a business website, I strongly urge you to consider
using a large portion of that for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - especially if your
target market is national or global. In building a fancy and glorious website without SEO, all you have
done is create a "work of art". You can show it to your friends and neighbors, but the
vast majority of the globe will never see it. You might as well just buy
a pretty picture to hang over your fireplace. SEO is critical for getting the word out
about your business.
WEBSITE ENHANCEMENT - Once you have a website and have it optimized,
you should expect the website to start getting attention (such as leads and sales).
With your website generating income, it now becomes practical to have some of that income
used for enhancing your website's appearance and functionality or increasing its ranking through more
SEO. If you truly want a custom "dream home" for your website,
let revenue from your website build it for you. Unlike a real building or house, a
customized website can be rebuilt "behind the scenes" without dislodging your primary
website. When the new one is ready, it can overlay the old one and become your primary
website in a matter of seconds. That is the amazing power of cyberspace.
